I was surprised to see a goodly number of leaves remaining Sunday despite the recent rain, but the wind today is bringing them down. Rather nippy, too, but still no frost. Neighbors tell me that a young bull moose has been seen in Tyson, so keep an eye out for him.
I spoke with folks at the Coolidge Homestead and apparently they had a fairly good turnout despite the wet weather. I hope the day-long closure of 100A near Lynds Hill on 10/9 did not keep folks from visiting there. The site will close on 10/22 for the season.
I spent some time at the tag sale on Sunday and enjoyed seeing both local folks and visitors to our area. Surprisingly, several people came from Texas. With temperature over 100 for most of the summer, they were even enjoying the rain. It was also nice to have the Historical Society there to open up their space – so much history there! Mark your calendar for a special program they are planning for Sunday, 10/29. Details to follow.
I also visited Chloe’s Market, the site of the former Plymouth Country Store. I heard a rumor that owner, Rick Martin named it after his dog. It is bright and shiny with all new accessories. Hannah Davidson is managing the place and her son, Harper was at the register. Grady Hilillard was also on hand to welcome customers. The gas price was quite reasonable, too. The store is closed on Mondays.
TRAFFIC ALERT: Monday Oct. 9th. VT100A near Lynds Hill Rd. in Plymouth, will be CLOSED to all traffic for culvert replacement. Closure planned to last from 6 am into early evening. Detour VT 100

Quite a change in the weather! It was so delightful to have some nice warm days last week, and the color really popped in most places. I was surprised to see a goodly number of leaves remaining despite the rain.
I spoke with folks at the Coolidge Homestead, and apparently they had a fairly good turnout despite the rain yesterday. Please know that they will be open this Monday, although they are usually closed on Mondays.
There is one wrinkle however, it appears that there will be road construction on 100A tomorrow, 10/9 and the road will actually be closed from what I understand. Of course, you can still get there by continuing up route 100 to route 4, then picking up 100A from the Bridgewater end.
I spent some time at the tag sale and enjoyed seeing both local folks and visitors to our area. Not as much traffic as in some years, but still fun!

A new month is upon us and today, Monday is a bright and sunny day. I was gifted with a chairlift ride up Okemo yesterday and it seemed more like summer than autumn. Still no frost and temps are predicted to reach into the 70s – how glorious!
I understand that there will not be a Select Board meeting this week, so the next one is scheduled for 10/16. I know folks are anxious for news on the progress at the town building, so hopefully there will be an update at that time.
A friend and I walked up Patch Brook Rd and found Mike Sailer working hard to repair it. I knew this end by Dublin Rd had been fixed and the road has now been restored about halfway up.
Get ready to enjoy the Fall Festival activities taking place 10/7 from 10:00 to 4:00 (buildings will be open until 5:00) at the Coolidge Homestead.. There will be apple tastings, cider pressing, wagon rides, craft demonstrations, and an old-time band, the Stringfield Springers will be on hand. You are welcome to roam the grounds for free, although there is an admission fee to tour the buildings, but remember that Veterans and Active military are always free.
You can continue your holiday weekend with the Town-wide tag sale on Sunday, 10/8 from 9am-6pm at the Community Center. It will take place rain or shine. For more information contact Lauren Skaskiw-Harootunian at 802-417-6895 to sign up and learn more.

Well, we are officially into the autumn season and still no frost. I did bring in the remaining tomatoes and have started fall cleanup in my yard. I notice the several others are doing the same. I haven’t observed much color yet, although there are fallen leaves in my driveway. Those coming to VT to see the foliage will need to be careful since several roads have not been fully repaired yet.
I gleaned this information from the minutes of the 9/18/23 Select Board meeting. Chloe’s Market, site of the former Plymouth Store and owned by Rick Martin will hopefully open 10/3 with Hannah Davidson as Store Manager. She mentioned that the store is still looking for help. Their planned hours of operation will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Friday and Saturday open until 7:30 pm and closed on Mondays. The gas pumps would be available during business hours.
Congratulations to Ben Lynds and Gabrielle Hilder who were married at their home on Saturday 9/23! I admit that I am not consistent with birthday acknowledgements, but I did notice that best wishes should go out to Steve Moyer on 10/18 and Robert Buchan on 10/25. Mark your calendars for the Fall Festival at the Coolidge Historic site on 10/7. Details to follow!
Don’t forget The Bethany Birches Camp auction that will take place this coming Sat, 10/30. This is the 20th year of the benefit auction that helps to provide funding for the amazing activities at both summer and winter camps and a few other events in-between. There will be luscious food to enjoy as you preview the items in this lovely setting, but if you cannot be there in person, you can still support the effort by bidding on-line. This is an opportunity to mingle with friends and others who are like-minded about providing wholesome experiences for campers.
The following is a message from Brandon “Tuna” Bergey, Executive Director of Bethany Birches
Good morning dear friends.
The leaves are changing, the air is cool in the evening, and campers are into their school year. That means it’s time for the annual benefit auction! I want to give you a couple updates about the auction this year.
You can pick up a kayak, ski tickets, week of camp, Kitchen Aid mixer, quit, etc. The live items are available to you as well, through our “absentee bid” process. View the live items list here and fill out the absentee bid form here:
Fun, Food, and Community: as always, there will be delicious food at no cost to you, thanks to our sponsors Gallagher Flynn and Jesse’s BBQ. There will be lovely people to spend the day with, fun times for any kiddos you bring along with you, and one of the best auctioneers on the East Coast who will do his best to make fun of anyone he can.
For the sake of helping young people develop their relationship with God, I hope to see you this Saturday!
Brandon “Tuna” Bergey Executive Director
Do you own land in Vermont? Does it need any clearing, or other work? A long time camp supporter (Gerry Hawkes) has donated a day of time with all the resources of Forest Savers. Trees, invasive brush, trail building… if it has to do with the earth’s surface, he is almost certainly able to tackle your project.
