Town Meeting Warned for March 5 at 7PM


The legal voters of Plymouth are hereby warned to meet at the Plymouth Municipal Building at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 5, 2012 to transact at that time business not involving voting by Australian Ballot or voting required by the law by ballot. The polls will be open Tuesday March 6, 2012 at the Plymouth Municipal Building from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. for the purpose of voting by Australian Ballot.

The business to be transacted will include:

Article 1. To elect Town Officers for the ensuing year(s) by Australian Ballot.
Moderator, Selectman, Lister, Collector of Delinquent Taxes, Grand Juror, Town Agent, Trustee of Public Funds, Auditor, School District Clerk, School District Moderator, First Constable, Second Constable, School Board Director and Cemetery Commissioner.

Article 2. To see if the town will vote $9,645.00 for Human Services to be allocated as follows:

A. Visiting Nurse Alliance $2,050.00
B. Black River Senior Center $2,000.00
C. VT Center for Independent Living $175.00
D. Windsor County Partners $500.00
E. Green Mtn. Eco. Dev. Corp $290.00
F. New Beginnings Women’s Support $300.00
G. Martha Lussier Service $200.00
H. Green Up Vermont $50.00
I. Black River Good Neighbors $300.00
J. Fletcher Memorial Library $1,200.00
K. Black River Area Community Coalition $500.00
L. Vermont Trails and Greenways $30.00
M. LPCTV $750.00
N. Tyson Library $500.00
Q. Historical Society $400.00
R. Plymouth Memory Tree $250.00
S. Plymouth Press $50.00
T. North Vermont Resources $100.00

Article 3. To see if the Town will continue to collect taxes in two (2) installments and no longer accept postmarks.

Article 4. To see if delinquent taxes shall be printed in the Town Report.

Article 5. To see if the Town will vote to raise 10,000.00 for a generator for the school to be used as an emergency shelter / command center.

Article 6. To see if the Town will vote to raise $995,907.22 to pay estimated expenses.

Article 7. To transact any other necessary and legal business.

    Would you know or more specifically, who might know who assigns the dollar amounts to the charitable groups identified in Article 2. I find it odd that the Fletcher Library receives four times the amount of BRGN. Also the Senior Center is awarded $2000 and lesser well known organizations get only $30-$50.
    I would think whomever is putting together this list needs to look at an accountability record of hoe these organizations are spending this money, and where justified readjust the allotments to more genuinely reflect the needs of Plymouth residents.

    Each organization submits a request to the Town to be included in the budget voted at Town Meeting, so it’s up to the organization to ask for what they think they need.
