Margo Marrone’s Plymouth Report

Republished with permission from The Vermont Standard

Well, this is late afternoon on Sunday & the rain has made an appearance, not in torrents, but gently watering the earth. I think my plants are happy. I am told there were quite a few visitors at the Historic Site this weekend. The Folk & Blues performance took place in the church on Sunday just to be on the safe side!

There was a good crowd of people at Hawk on Saturday for the unveiling of the plaque dedicating a special garden area to Mike Bivins. He envisioned & then implemented the lovely array of plantings immediately to the left of the Reception Center. Folks had various stories to share, many of them telling of Mike moving immensely heavy items single-handedly! All agreed that big Mike had a big heart & a big smile to match.

The Reading Group met last week & an in-depth discussion of Defending Jacob took place. It was nice to meet Ruth Brisson, newly moved to Plymouth with her family into the former Merino house. Lucy E by Plymouth resident Cassie Horner is the next book for discussion. Midge Tucker has some copies of this selection. The discussion will take place on Thurs, 9/25 at 6:30!

The week before last was one of new purchases at our house. One day my new washer & dryer were delivered, replacing ones from the early ‘80s. I have no illusion that these new ones will last that long! Also, our heat pump was installed, so perhaps I won’t be freezing this winter. It was interesting to see a recommendation for them by VPIRG in the Rutland Herald.

Plan to attend the Second Grace Coolidge Musicale of the season on 9/7 from 4:00 – 5:30 PM. Also, mark your calendar for Plymouth Bounty Day, 9/27 from 10:00 – 2:00. Turn out to showcase your areas of expertise & your talents. Let folks know about your business. Learn about various resources & agencies that provide service in our area. Chat with the Sheriff. Come one & all to explore & share the bounty within our community & that includes the great people that live here!
