I hope that folks were not adversely effected by the recent storm that conjured up memories of tropical storm, Irene. I think I actually lifted off the bed when that huge clap of thunder sounded, never getting back to sleep again that night! Rising water from streams and lakes was certainly evident, plus rushing water heading down from upper elevations came into play. Hopefully the rain forecast for the next week will be less dramatic.

I know many of us have been baking for the Tyson Ladies Aid bake sale, which will be long over by the time this goes to print. Their next event is the Spaghetti supper on Sunday, 5/5 at the Plymouth Town Building, so mark your calendar.

Ken Harmon shared an interesting story at the Community Luncheon about his experience flying through the air when a runaway freight car hit the steam train in which he was riding near Bellows Falls. Fortunately, he was uninjured! Also, thanks to Joy Donnelly for her wonderful dessert this time – sorry for those of you who missed it.

David Parker, the recruiter for the US Census Bureau in Windsor county also attended this month. He told us that the hours are flexible, the pay is good, and mileage is reimbursed! Free training is also provided. For additional information, go to 2020census.gov/jobs or call 1-855-JOB-2020

These monthly luncheons provide a time to gather and not only share a meal, but also enjoy a social time together. It takes a bit of planning and I have greatly appreciated all of those who attend and those who jump in to help – preparing food, setting up, bringing friends, etc. It would be lovely to have a few more people taking part, so please let me know if you would like to join the “planning committee” or help with food prep or speaking.

Two of the delightful people who formerly attended these luncheons have recently passed on. Dorothy Pingree on 4/9 and Bill Jarvi on 4/10. There will be a Memorial service for Bill at Tyson Church on Monday, 5/6 at 2:00 PM. Daughters, Kristen and Lauren would appreciate hearing your memories of their dad, especially since Bill’s grandchildren from far and wide will also be on hand.
