Margo Marrone’s Plymouth Report

3/21/11

The fishing huts are off Echo Lake & the sap is running, so spring must be here! Well, snow showers are predicted for today, but we can still have hope that green shoots are waiting to emerge in the near future.

So far, we have been doing well with making syrup (thanks to Chris & Melissa for their help) & there were many folks stopping at local sugar houses for the open house weekend. Still seem to be a number of visitors coming to VT & I understand from several people that skiing continues to be good.

Karen Evans organized a wonderful moonlight snowshoe trek on Saturday evening. We began by going to the corned beef dinner at the Catholic Church in Ludlow, which as always was delicious. Many Plymouth folks help to make it so – Shirley & Bob Billings, Beth & Mark Lombard, & Joanne & Paul Milza. The MacDougalls dined at our table.

Then, Kathy Lynds, Naomi Moyer, Karen & I set out on our snowshoes near Karen’s house. The snow was crunchy, so we saw no night creatures as we noisily moved through the woods, waiting for the moon to make its appearance. And when it did, it was spectacular – what a treat to live here & be able to enjoy such breathtaking beauty!

Thanks to Terry Bascom for calling the first organizational meeting of the Strawberry Festival Committee. We discussed what worked at last year’s successful event, as well as some changes that need to addressed. The community support was wonderful & the help of the parents was much needed & appreciated. Hopefully everyone will rally around again this year, so mark your calendars for 6/22!

Message From Montpelier: Legislative Report from Rep. Dennis Devereux

Legislative Report from Rep. Dennis Devereux for Ludlow, Mount Holly and Plymouth

Vital records might not sound like a very important issue with so many others confronting us, but just ask a person who has had their identity stolen. The Vital Records bill on which our committee has spent many hours receiving testimony is the result of a report researched and written by our Vermont Department of Health. Its report issued last September made recommendations for updating our antiquated statutes, and for changes to how we access birth and death certificates.

3/6/11

It is Sunday afternoon as I sit down to write & I find that I have very little to say this week. Perhaps the fact that I am waiting for our grandchild to be born has something to do with my restlessness & inability to concentrate. I am trying to make sure everything is up-to-date – the wash caught up, some meals prepared ahead, & now I want to get this piece done, just in case Melissa goes into labor & I am not here to submit it tomorrow AM!

So, I will list some events that are coming up in the near future.

Scenic Route 100 Byway

With the pending adoption of our section of Route 100 as a Scenic Byway, I am hopeful that the road can be brought into the 21st century with cell phone coverage the length of the Byway. If we are hopeful of developing/improving business opportunities for our town and employment for our youth, cell coverage is essential in todays’ communication network. Surely cell operators would be willing to cooperate in this venture.
