The Ladies Aid Easter Bake Sale raises money for scholarships, Tyson Library, and local aid.

Let the Ladies of Tyson help you with your holiday meals !  Come on down to Shaw’s Plaza on Friday, April 30th between 10 – 12.  See all the above and more that these Ladies offer for sale.   All proceeds of the sale go towards high school scholarships (Black River and Woodstock), running the historical free Tyson Library and supporting various other community charities.

We’re hoping to run out early so come on over for the best pick of the most luscious, appetizing selection of baked goodies and treats that even the Easter Bunny will envy.  AND you’ll have a great time picking out your favorite piece of goodness while helping to support your community.

License your dog by April 1

Please do not forget to license your dog by April 1, 2018. It is a State of Vermont requirement; but even more than that, it provides us with an avenue to return your pet should he or she become lost. It also helps the Town identify those animals that reside in Plymouth.

The cost for a license is $9 if your dog is neutered, and $13 if your dog is not neutered. If you register your dog after April 1, there is a late fee: $2 if your dog is neutered and $4 if your dog is not neutered.

That said, because our priority is to have your dog licensed, so he can be returned to you should he decide to go out on his own on an adventure, the Town Office will give our residents until Tuesday, May 1, to register without any penalty.

I hope that everyone has been soaking up the lovely weekend sunshine, at least from indoors if not outside in the cold! Looks like that other predicted snow storm will miss us. I am not disappointed….

Thanks to everyone who assisted with and attended the Community Luncheon last Thursday. Thanks to Tom at the Echo Lake Inn for assisting with walkways. Delicious food, wonderful music, and lots of socializing. Jim Hasson and Ken Harmon teamed up to sing with Adam and Sue.  The hope is to gather again in April. How would you like to help this time? Let me know.

This Thursday is the Reading Group at 6:30 at the Community Center. This time we read Paper Love: Searching for the Girl My Grandfather Left Behind By Sarah Wildman. It was interesting to learn about the struggles and resiliency of folks in occupied countries and those who came to US during the Holocaust years. Even if you haven’t read this book, join us and help to choose the next one!

I understand that the Planning and Zoning meeting for 3/13/2018 had to be cancelled due to weather. The next meeting will be 7:00pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Work will continue work on Town Plan. The public is encouraged to attend and have input.

As many publications note property changes, we plan to do the same. The latest one is. 881 Johnson Farm Rd: David Cederlund Trust to Benjamin & Deborah Poole: $565,000.

Some folks may know Judy and Paul Nevins from Mt Holly, whose home was severely damaged by fire last Thursday. Both Paul and Judy were teachers at the Plymouth Elementary School many years ago. More to come on how best to assist them. Thanks to Jeff Sailer and Tom for taking the tanker over to assist with mutual aid.

We provided the wrong date for the pre-St Patrick’s Day Community Luncheon in Margo’s Plymouth Report published yesterday. It will be held on Thursday, but the date is March 15, not March 14 as reported.

The location is correct: the luncheon will be held in the Community Room of Tyson Church at 11:00AM. Come enjoy  a boiled dinner with salad and a special dessert. Entertainment by Adam Boyce and his friend Merv who will provide some lively music!

No charge, but donations are accepted. Come join the fun and meet and greet your neighbors.

Plymouth’s Town Plan is Being Reworked, Attendance Invited — Margo’s Plymouth Report

I would say that we were very fortunate with that last storm considering the devastation that it created in many other places. The coast certainly took a beating. My sister in Mohegan Lake, NY lost electricity on Friday and just had power restored on Mon – just in time for this latest storm!  I know that crews from VT had been sent to various places in NY to help repair the damage.

Thanks to Keith Cappellini for agreeing to become the Plymouth representative on the WSCU Board. He won as the write-in candidate.  This is very important because otherwise our town would not be represented.

Work is being done on the Town Plan.  Please consider attending the next Planning and Zoning Meeting that will be on Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00 PM.  Two Rivers – Ottauquechee Regional Commission will be assisting with the Town Plan.  Property owners are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.

Property transfers for the month of February were: 1027 Bradley Hill Road, Rodney Leonard sold property to David Hartung and Stephanie Garrow-Hartung; $135,000.

Snow Camp Openings, President’s Day at the Coolidge Historic Site — Margo’s Plymouth Report

That recent rain didn’t actually reduce the huge mounds of snow that have been accumulating, but it did make them slick and shiny! Even with grippers folks have been falling, so please be careful. I am having knee replacement in a little over a week, so I have been extra cautious about staying upright.

The Reading Group is meeting at the Community Center this Thursday at 6:30. I will be interested to hear what others thought of Mozart’s Starling. I am nearly to the end and can’t quite make up my mind about it. Join us even if you haven’t read the book, then you can help choose the next one!

I understand that there are still some openings for Snow Camp at Bethany Birches. Get in touch if you are interested in attending (802-672-5220) Guys and gals in Lynx B grades 3-6, happening 2/24 – 27 and gals in Polar Bear grades 7-9 on 3/9 -11.

Consider hearing President Coolidge (the 1st president to speak directly to the American people via radio), as portrayed by Tracy Messer, at the President Coolidge Historic Site at 2:00 PM n 2/19. He will be sharing portions of the February 22, 1926 speech to the National Education Association.

The Site will be open from noon to 4:00 that day and you can also learn more from Site Administrator, William Jenney about the exciting things that will be happening at the Notch this summer. At 1:00 PM Education Director, Diane Kemble, will make a short presentation on this year’s Calvin Writing Prize topic, What speech would you give as President to advance Civil Rights? Plan to visit the Cheese Factory as well.

We will be having our Ash Wed service at church on 4:00 PM on 2/14. I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be retiring as the pastor of Tyson Congregational Church following the Easter service. Although being part of the church since 1979, I was officially installed there as the minister almost 13 years ago. My new knee and I will be on to the next chapter of my life!

What a rude awakening!  Having just returned Saturday night from a Caribbean cruise on the Disney ship, Fantasy, coming back to over a foot of snow was quite a contrast, to say the least.  I guess while we were gone there was very little precip, but beware, there is still a solid layer of ice under the snow.

I believe that Tyson Ladies Aid is preparing a feast for the Reach Out Luncheon that will take place at the church on Thursday, 2/15.  Also on that date at 6:30 PM will be Reading Group.

The only other news I have gleaned lately is that there will be a town-wide tag sale at the Community Center again this Memorial Day weekend.  Details to follow!

Plymouth Residents are Invited to Sell at the ‘Antiques and Treasures’ Tag Sale

Do you have too much STUFF?

Sell some of it in the Annual Plymouth Town “Antiques and Treasures” Tag Sale at the Plymouth Community Center this Memorial Day Weekend.

Begin setting aside items that are in good condition so you can sell them in the Sale! This is a great opportunity to clear your clutter and free your space!

How to Participate as a Vendor at the 5th Annual Plymouth Town “Antiques and Treasures” Tag Sale~ 

All Plymouth residents are invited to participate as vendors in our 2-Day Memorial Day Weekend Antiques and Treasures Tag Sale to be held at the Plymouth Schoolhouse Activity Center on May 26th and 27th, 2018.

To put items up for sale, here’s what you need to do:

Securely attach a tag to every item. Each tag must have both (a) your initials, and (b) the price. (We cannot negotiate a price on your behalf, however you can change prices on your unsold items at anytime during the sale.)

Please use 3 initials on your tags, to avoid possible duplication!

Note: We strongly suggest that you use actual tags – ideally, the kind with little strings – and attach them securely with safety pins or by tying the string to your item. We have learned that adhesive labels, tape, and safety pin-secured tags tend to fall off. If your tag falls off, or we cannot read what it says, we will not be able to sell the item.

Deliver your items to the Plymouth Community Center on the following days and times:

Saturday, May 19th   11am – 1pm

Sunday, May 20th    Noon-3pm

Wednesday, May 23rd  4:30pm-6:30pm

We will have tables for display. You can also provide your own display, if you wish. And, in general, if you have a table to loan us, it will be a big help. You are responsible for displaying your items. Tables and floor space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, your items do not have to be segregated from other people’s items because the tags identify what belongs to you no matter where they are displayed.

While delivering your items, sign up for a 3-hr shift to help staff the event.

The Sale will be open from 9 am – 6 pm both days (Saturday and Sunday) May 26th and 27th. We need at least 2 volunteers each day for each of the following 3-hour shifts:

9 am – Noon

Noon – 3 pm

3 pm – 6 pm

Please plan to pick up what does not sell on the following dates and times:

Wednesday May 30th 4-6pm

Saturday, June 2, 11 am – 1pm

Anything unclaimed will be offered to Bridgewater Sustainable Earth Foundation the week of June 3. Anything they do not want will be disposed of through the Plymouth Transfer Station on June 10th.

Cost: There will be a small fee to participate as a vendor. The fee offsets the cost of printing flyers, making sandwich boards to advertise the event, and disposal cost. The fee is $5, and will be subtracted from your total sales. (So, if you don’t sell anything, you won’t pay anything. And if you sell less than $5, you will only pay the amount you sold. Everything over the first $5 will go to you.)

Participants are partners in advertising the event. We will have a downloadable PDF of the event’s advertisement flyer available on May 1. You can use it to print your own flyers, if you wish. We will also provide printed flyers at Plymouth Town Hall starting on  May 1. Please spread them around!

Local Inns Open for Delicious Dinners! — Margo’s Plymouth Report

Greetings! More crazy weather, but that has been happening all over the country lately. Sometimes family and friends in AL and FL have started out the day with colder temps than here!

I understand that the Community Luncheon on 1/18 went well, with new folks attending. I heard that everyone enjoyed Michelle’s lasagna and Cassie’s presentation. I want to thank the community and church folks who made it happen, since my niece passed away and we were in NY. Tyson Ladies Aid will be handling the luncheon in February, so mark your calendars for 2/15. Who wants to share their culinary skills for March?

Speaking of food, you can have some luscious meals right here in Plymouth! The Inn at Waters Edge (802-228-8143) offers a $25 Thursday night special including a glass of wine and dinner for two on Friday nights for $70 with a bottle of table wine. Call ahead for reservations.

Although closed for a time, the Echo Lake Inn (802-228-8602) is now open for dinner Tuesday – Saturday and will be offering a $29 Pris-Fix menu that can be enjoyed any night they are open. Call for reservations and request the special menu.
