The Annual Plymouth Folk and Blues Concert takes place this weekend at the President Coolidge Homestead

Sorry to have missed reporting last week – I had just arrived back in VT from CA. I am glad to be home, even though I will be needing more surgery on my hip. I am not sure what that will entail or exactly when that will happen!

This is a busy weekend coming up with a variety of events taking place at the President Calvin Coolidge Historic Site. Be sure to come to the very witty presentation of Shakespeare Alive! that will take place at the Union Christian Church at noon on Saturday, 9/1. The Stand Up Shakespeare Company does an amazing job of incorporating the Bard’s works into an entertaining presentation. It is free, but you will need to be quick to catch all of the innuendos!

Children and adults alike can enjoy a wagon ride and perusing the various arts and crafts. While there, consider staying for the 14th annual Plymouth Folk and Blues Festival taking place starting at 2:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday. 9/1: Jay Ottaway and the Ramble, Julia Mark, and Seth Adam. On 9/2: Cricket Blue, Alice Howe, and Dan Weber. The concerts are free, although donations are appreciated. Also, consider bringing a non-perishable food item for the VT Foodbank. If rain threatens, the entertainment will be shifted to the church.

Mark your calendar for the next Plymouth Reading Group gathering at 6:30 PM on 9/6 when Beneath a Scarlet Sky will be discussed. This should be a lively meeting! Also, I just learned that Camp Plymouth State Park will remain open until the end of September, so be sure to get over and enjoy this local treasure.

Bears, bears, everywhere. It seems that sightings are becoming quite common these days. The State regulates the bear season in order to manage the population which has grown significantly in recent years. I didn’t know much about bear hunting season and actually I still don’t, but I thought I would at least note that the season starts in September and there are new regulations. Bears with yellow ear tags and those with GPS collars are not to be taken because they are providing important study information.
